What is the Tucker Piezo Ignition Kit and How Do You Install It?

If your Tucker gas BBQ or heater isn't sparking like it used to, the piezo ignition kit may be due for a replacement. The Tucker Piezo Ignition Kit is a simple but essential component designed to help ignite the gas burners safely and reliably. It’s used across many Tucker BBQs and heaters and is beginner-friendly to replace if you know the basics.

What Is a Piezo Ignition?

ThePiezo ignition works using a piezoelectric crystal, which produces an electric spark when compressed. When you press the ignition button or turn a dial on your BBQ or heater, this mechanical action compresses the crystal. That compression releases a small jolt of electricity, which travels through a wire to the ceramic probe near the burner—resulting in a spark that lights the gas.

Unlike battery-powered igniters, a piezo system doesn’t require any electricity or maintenance. It’s a durable and long-lasting solution, but like all parts exposed to heat and grease, it may wear out over time.

What’s in the Tucker Piezo Ignition Kit?

  • A piezo igniter (the push-button unit)
  • An ignition wire to carry the spark
  •  A ceramic ignition probe that sits near the burner

These parts work together to generate and deliver a consistent spark to ignite your BBQ or heater.

How to Install the Piezo Ignition Kit

Tools you’ll need:

  • A Phillips head screwdriver
  • Adjustable spanner (if needed for access)
  • Safety gloves

Steps:

  1. Turn off the gas and disconnect the gas hose completely. Safety first!
  2. Locate the old piezo unit on the front panel of your BBQ or heater.
  3. Unscrew the ignition button from the panel. Disconnect the ignition wire from the piezo and from the probe inside.
  4. Remove the old ceramic ignition probe from near the burner (it may be clipped or screwed in).
  5. Install the new probe, securing it in the same spot. Make sure the metal tip is positioned close to a burner port.
  6. Connect the new wire from the probe to the back of the new piezo unit.
  7. Insert the piezo unit through the front panel and screw it into place.
  8. Reconnect the gas and test the ignition—you should hear a “click” and see a spark. If not, double-check wire connections and the probe position.
